From Farm to Table

Yesterday, Abby had her first Kindergarten field trip and I got to go with her! We went to the State Fairgrounds, and the theme of the trip was "From Farm to Table." It culminated in a lunch of cheese pizza and applesauce (this was a vegetarian trip). Yum!

We had three stations of the field trip, the greenhouse, the animal barn, and the little people play farm.

At the greenhouse, all the kids got to plant a sunflower seed, here is Abby's:

In this picture, she got to smell Dill:

Here we were obviously in the animal barn...

And this was in the Little People Play Farm (I hope that was what it was called, it was something like that). This is her basket of play vegetables, wool, and apples that she is taking to market to sell (you can only see the cucumber).

Add it to the list

I think I have something new I want. I'll just add it to the list. Ha.

Anyway, seriously. Wouldn't this be nice instead of a big old high chair that we have to step around constantly and takes up so much space? Lily could sit right up at the table with the rest of us! It holds children up to 37 pounds, which she has quite a ways to go until she weighs that much AND we could travel with it. Wouldn't it be great? AND, it's not even crazy expensive! You think I can talk Matt into it?

Some like it hot

Matt is on his way out of town this afternoon, so he had an office day this morning, which means that he was at home (his office is home). Quite frequently when he has an office day we make an effort to have a lunch date. I really enjoy it.

Today we went to our local Mexican restaurant, and Lily decided to try the salsa for the first time today. Apparently we had been modeling how to dip the chips all the time and didn't know it. I feared we would get quite a face from her after she tasted it, but like her big sister, she loved it!

Notice the uneaten quesadilla on her plate? Yup, she waited until it was time to go to eat it. She ate it (well, at least half of it) in the car all the way home. It's nice that they aren't messy.

The Apples of my Eye

We made our annual trek to the apple orchard this weekend. Usually we are very late into the season when we go, so there is very little left to choose from. We were feeling very proud this year to get out there while it was still September. But, then we got there and found out that the selection was just as slim as before because the weather has been so hot and dry, which shouldn't have been a shocker if we had thought about it. Oh well. It was fun.

This year was also different in that Lily was older and got to eat apples! It was cooler the morning we went than it had been recently. We were a little warm by the time we left in our long sleeves. The sunshine was beautiful.

Once Lily found an apple to hold, it was hers forever...

Abby was an apple picking champ.

Lily, eating her first whole apple. It would be fair to say that she loved it.

Reluctantly sharing it with Abby.

Finally they each have their own. This is our picture posing time, but the girls won't stop eating so I just snapped away. Each picture is different and hilarious if you look at them all together. You may notice that Lily looks sweaty in some of the pictures. Nope. She's covered in apple juice from her apple.

(This is sadly all that is left. I think she ate some of the seeds and I'm sure that she attempted to eat the stem. Notice the bottom of the core is completely gone. Yuck. Maybe she'll turn into an apple?)

Mary Poppins

Abby and I are waking up tired this morning, because we got in late last night. 11:00, to be specific, which is very late for a little girl and her tired mommy. But, it was very worth it, because we got to see the traveling Broadway show, Mary Poppins!

We got our tickets through friends at church that work through a ticket broker, so we had A.MAZ.ING. tickets. Like seriously. I've never had such good tickets. We were fifth row. Fifth. Row E. Seriously. Center. Fifth row, Center. Really. It was unreal. It is hard to explain what it is like to have seats like that.

Abby did great. No sleepiness. No potty breaks. She loved it and laughed and giggled at all the right parts. It was a little different from the movie in parts, but we loved it. Here are some stock pictures that I got from google. Here is the link to the Official Website.

This is "Step in Time", an amazing tap number. Super cool.

This is "Supercalifragilistic...", which is setup really different from the movie, but an awesome number. Mary is in blue.

Beginner Dance

Abby is now in Beginner Dance classes. It is very different than the preschool level: much more focused, no cute props. Yesterday was her third week and I finally took in my camera, so today is brag day on my blog. I will have to draw your attention to her tongue in a couple of them. Actually, you will probably notice it without me drawing your attention to it. It is pretty hilarious. It shows just how hard she is concentrating. She gets that from me, and I get it from my grandmother.

If you are a mother to only little boys, this is what you are missing. :)

Enjoy!

(There class has an odd number of girls, this just happened to be a week that Abby was in the row of 3- that's why she's in the middle.)

Pony Rides

This weekend was our church's Community Fall Festival . I didn't do a great job this year taking pictures, but that was mostly because THIS year Lily was mobile! AND, she got to participate, especially in the petting zoo and pony rides. She never looked quite sure and yet never cried. When we made a second trip to that area before we left, she was very excited.

Here she is petting a miniature horse of some kind. She also loved the chickens (which, of course, I have no pictures of).

Here is our pro pony rider...

...and Miss Lily... (she had this same face practically the whole ride)

Oops! A smile!

We finished the night with baths and the wearing of Lily's first nightgown (which was also Abby's first nightgown many moon's ago). I think Abby might have been more excited about this than Lily. She insisted that she must wear a nightgown also.
