Here birdie, birdie

We checked out the new bird exhibit as a family at the zoo last Friday during their evening concert series. We were going to buy one of the feeding sticks, but as we were walking in, a family was leaving that still had a ticket they hadn't used that they gave us. Score!

We had so much fun.

We've got babies!

After a crazy week last week, the girls and I are trying to settle back into normal this week.  We started out by "babying" my plants a little this morning.  They are looking sad.  In our effort to get our lawn some water this weekend, the plants didn't get their daily watering.  Hopefully they'll look better in an hour or so after the water has soaked in.  I'm thinking they get a double dose today!

So, while we were outside, we thought we'd get some pictures of some of the fun in our backyard that we've been enjoying recently.  Baby birds!  We bought this fun birdhouse over Spring Break, having no idea that birds would actually inhabit it.  We had so much fun watching them build a next inside it.  Imagine our surprise when a week or so ago, Abby noticed baby birds inside!

Talk about a hard picture to get!  It is dark in there and that is a little hole.  This is the best I can get.  We can see at least four babies.

We also saw a hummingbird flying around this same tree area this weekend.  Too fun.

My grocery helper

This weekend, Abby went with me to help me pick up a few things at the grocery store.  Lately, I've been giving her some more grown up jobs and this day I picked one of the small carts and let her push.  She was also in change of picking out the strawberries, which she took very seriously.  She was awesome.

So, I was perusing the pictures on my iPhone and I caught this one which is a screen shot from Wednesday of the girls and I trying to FaceTime with Matt.  This is me trying to corral the girls into the little camera view so we can all "talk" to Daddy.

Lately, it seems like Lily has had the hardest time with Matt being gone.  I'm not sure if it is her age, or not.  Seeing him makes a difference for her.  Just talking on the phone doesn't help as much.  The iPhones have helped in that way.  We were so dumb, because we didn't even use that feature for the longest time and then all of a sudden I realized we had it.  I get used to it, but it's the hardest when I have evening stuff where I have to juggle the girls and schedules on my own.  That, and if I get sick.  We watch our fair share of movies.  :)

Cherries

I splurged this weekend and bought some cherries for a "cookout" meal with friends.  For the first time ever.  Yup.  You read that right.  I've never bought cherries.  I've thought about it, but never done it.  It turns out I'm dumb and did the math wrong in my head in the produce department and paid a small fortune for them, but it turns out the girls loved them!

Lily can't quite get the whole thing in her mouth and chew around the seed/pit, so we end up cutting them up, but Abby loved having seed spitting contents with our friend Lauren.  Good times.
