Devouring a good book

I love a good book.

So does Lily apparently.

But not in the same way as me, I guess.

So, this is the cute, new board book that I bought for Lily recently.

Cute, right?

Apparently, it's appetizing too. Not so cute.

Dear Lily,
Please don't eat your books.
Mmmm, okay, thanks.

snUGGs

On Friday, Lily and I went shopping for Fall clothes and shoes. She needed some cool weather clothes and sneakers. I also was on the lookout for something other than sneakers for Abby. When I asked her what she wanted, her only request was boots. A while back, she tried on some kids Uggs at Von Maur (which I was NOT going to buy for a 5 year old!), and she loved them. She giggled at the furry insides. That said, I was very much on the look out for some knock offs. ....and, I found some (at the Children's Place). I also picked some up for Lily.

So, I surprised her with them when she got home from school that day. I could hardly pry them off her feet all weekend. She even wants to wear them with her pajamas. I had no idea she would love them so much. It makes it really fun. She calls them her Snuggs, because they are snuggley. She wore them to school today and said that they worked out great (meaning that she could play okay in them at recess and also that her feet didn't get too hot.)

Lily wasn't so sure. She tried them on once the day we got them and had a little trouble walking. We tried them on again today with no problems, and she didn't want to take them off, so I guess she's going to like them too. How fun. And how cute do they look all lined up (mine too)?

Abby's Camera

I cleaned off Abby's digital camera last night because she ran out of memory and couldn't take any more pictures, so I thought I'd share some of her masterpieces. As you will be able to tell, she has gotten pretty good at some of the fun features that you can do with her camera. I distinctly remember a day this summer when I was told to pose in a lot of weird ways, one being a fish-face. Now I see why. Here is a little glimpse into her world.

Here, I assume she is trying to make the puppies look like they are getting married. Just needed a little adjusting.

Nurse Monkey

A dinosaur eating a baby doll.

Me, aka Mommy, stuck in an aquarium.

This one I had actually seen (Matt thought it was so funny and had to show it to me), and obviously someone else took the picture. This is when Abby went golfing "with the boys" in Ohio, and I guess as a funny picture they tied her up like a golf bag on the back of the cart. They are hilarious, right? Yeah. (it also shows that her camera is capable of taking pictures that aren't completely out of focus when someone other than a 5 year old is holding it)

Tidbits

I’m loving that Dancing with the Stars is back on. It’s also not all bad that Matt is generally out of town on Mondays because then he doesn’t get annoyed that I’m watching it.

Lily is still paci free and I am so glad. We did it and I haven’t had a single regret. I do have to admit there are times when she drives me nuts with her fussiness that I think it would be so easy to just shove a paci in there, but….. I’m still glad we’re done with that phase.

I had the best time with Abby when we saw Mary Poppins last weekend. I downloaded the soundtrack and we’ve been listening to it in the car. The song “Practically Perfect” keeps getting stuck in our heads and we sing it and drive Matt nuts. It’s fun.

Lily has been fully embracing bedtime routines as she is getting older. Just last night (and really, this isn’t new), she gave Abby a kiss and hug and ran into her room, which was dark. By the time I got in there (just a few steps behind her), she had her bedtime music playing and her star ladybug turned on.

I felt the teacher in me come out on Abby’s field trip the other day. I find it impossible to ignore it completely. Maybe if I had taught older kids? Something about corralling all those little ones…

Today is Matt’s birthday and we are going out to dinner with some friends and I am really looking forward to some fun conversation and laughs WITHOUT kids. It’s going to be fun. Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday, Matty!

I just prepared a schedule for some friends from church to provide meals for a fellow friend who is having a baby. How wonderful to have a support network like that. We have had so many babies over the last 2 years in our church and so many meals have been prepared and delivered.

I really want to see that new movie “The Social Network”. It looks really good. I also want to see the movie that comes out in another week about the two people that become guardians of a baby after the parents die. It looks really funny. I also MUST buy Beauty and the Beast next week when it comes out on DVD. I think it’s the only princess movie we don’t have.

Lily is obsessed with Goldfish crackers recently and so I bought one of those big cartons of them, but I bought the whole grain kind. I actually like them better than the original ones. Go figure.
