TV junkie, here.

Yep.  I'm a TV junkie.  I love me some DVRed shows.  Some of my newer favorites are on Monday nights, which is tonight, so I thought I'd share.  :)  Their new season just started last week.

Anyone who has known me for a long time knows that I LOVED Gilmore Girls.  Well, last year, the creator of Gilmore Girls created a new show that is super similar.  She has even had a lot of the actors come to this show.  It's Bunheads on ABC Family.  Love it.

Now, my newest show I've been watching required some catching up.  Switched at Birth comes on right before Bunheads.  Their second season just started and their first season is on Netflix.  I watched the whole first season and am finally all caught up.  It was a long first season.  I was a possessed woman.

It's about two girls who were switched at birth (obviously), but it wasn't figured out until they were 15. One grew up wealthy, one not so much (and single parent).  The one with less means also is deaf.  The deaf storyline adds so much to the show, I think.  It turns out that the two family end up living together, essentially, so they can get to know each other.

I also am still watching Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and Private Practice.

I feel like I should watch Downton Abbey or I'm not cool, but I don't.

What's your favorite non-reality show?

Our Weekend

Matt and I decided on Friday night, that whatever did on Saturday, it needed to be out of the house.  We brainstormed some ideas, including my brilliant idea of buying plane tickets right then for a quick trip to Florida- but Matt vetoed me.  Party pooper.  In all seriousness, if we had left first thing Saturday morning and come back Monday morning, we would have gotten really good prices!  Crazy, right?

So, we went to bed not deciding.

We ended up deciding to go to the Children's Museum that morning, but decided we would try to go to the exhibits that we don't usually spend as much time at, and avoid the ones we ALWAYS go to.  The girls were totally in.

Matt needed some sunglasses for his drive... the girls cracked up. (originally from a "Where's Waldo" kid's meal toy)

We visited the National Geographic "Treasures of the Earth" exhibit.  These are life size puzzles of Han Dynasty warriors from China.  Very cool.

and investigating a pirate shipwreck.

...and the Hot Wheels exhibit, which is super cool.  I didn't get pictures of the area where they have the little Hot Wheels with cool tracks to loop and race your cars on.  It was pretty busy when we were there and hard to get a place in line.

After the Hot Wheels exhibit, we got free tickets to see a Planetarium show (still at the museum) featuring Big Bird and Elmo.  They always offer it, but usually the times don't work out for us.  This time we made it work and had a great time.  Lily was so nervous in the dark room at first and then declared it "awesome" and "fantastic."

Then, later that day, we hit Toys R Us with some of the girls' Christmas Gift Cars and they each picked out a new Lego set.  They played Legos the rest of the night and the whole next morning.

It was a good weekend.

One Little Word

I think it was a year ago, I heard about this idea on a blog I read of choosing "one word" to inspire your upcoming year.  She used this blog as her inspiration.  The blogger talks about how "one little word" can have big meaning in your life.  You can focus on it, you can meditate on it, reflect on it in daily life, it can inspire you, etc.  The author's words have included:  play, open, vitality, nurture, light, up, and story.

I also found this site.  It has a more faith-based spin, but the same basic idea.  One word.  As a resolution for the year.  Here is a bank of their words for inspiration:

After doing my "research" for this blog, I almost feel like I could pick two.  :)  The two categories almost seem different, don't they?  Well, I picked from the picture word bank so far.

My word is surrender.

For me it is something I can work on in lots of different places, but the overriding think is trying to surrender the control I think I have to have on everything.  Who I'm giving that to is the next step.  Sometimes it's small.  Sometimes it's big.  :)  It's a journey.

What's your word?

7

We are starting a new book study this week in my small group, and again, I'm really looking forward to the book.  It looks really good.

Here it is for those of you who are interested.  It's basically about a woman (funny and normal), much like most of us, who decided to try to cut out a bunch of the excess in her life that we, as Americans have too much of and yet, we keep trying to get more.  She chose one area a month.  I haven't read the book yet, but I do know that the first chapter is Food and she only ate 7 foods for one month.  She writes it like a journal.

Here is an excerpt from the introduction (that I read for this week).  I sent this picture to Matt with the text, "Ouch."  He ended up reading the introduction and the first chapter (so far).

If you could read that, crazy, right?!

It is a faith-based book, for those of you who weren't sure.  Let me know if you end up reading it!

Instagram

I mentioned on Facebook that I'm trying out Instagram.

I've actually had the app on my iPhone for forever, because I used the different filters and frames and such, but I never used the sharing and "social" part of it.  You know, following and followers.

So, I decided I'm way overdue.  A lot of the blogs I read are on Instagram, along with a lot of the people I follow on Twitter.

Soooo, come follow me!  On Twitter and Instagram!  I have the same username on both- cbdickerson
(oh, and Matt just joined Twitter, so surprise him and follow him:  mj_dickerson)

I don't tweet all that often, but who knows, maybe I'll get better!  :)

Here are a couple of my Insta pics from this weekend....

The girls playing a long board game, literally, while they wait on me to get ready.

Getting good at tennis, on the Wii.  Even Lily!

Starting the week out right, trying to stay on my pledge of doing my daily devotional for church.
