We visited the State Fair on Saturday. Ever since last year, the girls are all about it. It makes it fun. We hit it a little before lunch, thinking we'd check out some stuff and have fair food for lunch, but time gets away from you when you are there. I always underestimate how long it takes to stand in line everywhere and just simply the time it takes to walk around. We were there quite a while and it was HOT! By the time we left we were pooped and wet with sweat. I looked up the temperature when we got to the car and it was in the nineties, but the heat index was 105. I guess that explains why we felt the way we did!
We check out the horses, which we loved. I totally get how people become horse people. I could easily become a horse person, I think.
This picture of Lily cracks me up because she totally wanted to pet the horse, until it wanted to check her out. If you look closely at her face, she is almost more surprised than scared- kind of smiling.
We also found our newest addiction. Since we got back from Alabama, our family has been obsessed with beignets. We found a booth/food truck that was selling them at the fair! For those of you who don't know what they are, they are just basically fried dough (dumpling? but not filled) with powered sugar all over them. But, they are YUMMY. We bought 2 plates and shared them with our friends that we went with. We also were mean and texted pictures to our family that we vacationed with. :)
We usually try to avoid the Midway since we are blessed enough to be able to take our girls to places like Disney World, but Abby provided an excellent argument as to why she wanted to ride the Ferris Wheel, sooooo....
We also bought enough tickets that they got to ride a couple kiddie rides.
(Can I say that I now know why we avoid the midway? They charge a fortune for the tickets and the ride lasts for 10 seconds. Terrible.)
We have one more visit planned. We want to go to the
Night Glow again with the hot air balloons. It was so cool last year that we don't want to miss it this year. Hopefully the weather won't be so miserably hot, AND we can get the things in we missed on Saturday.
Have you been to the fair yet?
