Nummy

I think I shared a couple days ago that Lily knows knows and loves to say the word "Yummy", which is pronounced "Nummy!"

Well...

We had pasta the other night for dinner and she got to have a Reese Peanut Butter Egg for dessert (one of the smaller ones). Nummy!

Get in front of the camera

I am setting a new goal.

A couple of blogs that I read have mentioned this before, but today one mentioned it and I think it's a great idea. I guess I should tell you what it is... take more pictures of yourself with your kids. The idea is that moms get so focused on taking the pictures that we are so rarely IN the pictures. We often worry about how awful or fat or cruddy we look, but really in twenty years, our kids are not going to be thinking about that. It will just be nice to have those pictures. Under the Sycamore takes seriously beautiful pictures and blogged about this topic today. She links to this old entry where she explains the need to include yourself in photos. It's a good read, I think. She also links up with another blog that is doing the same thing. They are hosting an "Embrace the Camera" Challenge. It also gives another perspective on taking pictures of yourself.

Great idea, right? A little scary to take all those pictures of yourself and not be hypercritical of how you look. I guess that is a goal in itself. :)

So, if you are a mom and take lots of pictures of your kids but not lots of yourself, I encourage you to check out all those links and try it with me. You don't have to share the pictures on Facebook or online, just do it for your family.

Tidbits

I'm a little off my blogging game. I think I can trace it back to knee surgery. I just haven't been been up and around and taking pictures as much lately. Sorry about that. So, what to write about...

Yesterday I had one of those days that my knee doctor warned me about where you feel good so you overdo it and then you pay the next day or so. Yup. Totally paid yesterday. Not fun. Really sore. I'm hoping that today I am all better from that. I'm guessing only time will tell.

I'm making a big leap today and taking Lily to Gymboree today for the first time since my surgery. I won't be able to do everything, and I'll be moving a little awkwardly compared to normal, BUT, I think it will be nice to get out.

Are you enjoying the warmer weather? I actually wore flip flops to physical therapy yesterday! (I need a pedicure, by the way) Crazy. It is supposed to get cold just in time for Spring Break. Of course.

Last night was Dancing with the Stars. Did you watch? I made it through (maybe) the first half, but I was really tired last night, so I crashed really early. Abby and I are big Derek fans and he's not on this season so that is a bummer. Though guess who snuck downstairs after the first dance and fessed up to watching from the stairs. Yup. Guess who got marched back up to her bed. Uh huh.

Lily slept through the night the last two nights. That may sound silly to say about a two year old, but we have been struggling, so it is big news and makes for happy, well-rested parents in the morning (particularly Matt). We actually slept with one of our windows open in our bedroom last night, which he loved, so he was really in a good mood when he woke up. Better than grouchy. Don't tell him I said that. :)

Abby smashed her finger at church on Sunday when the kids were playing with pool balls. The entire tip of her pinky is purple. (Seriously, she cried for about an hour straight when it happened- no exaggeration) I'm really afraid she's going to lose her nail. Oh, please, Lord, prepare me for the drama that will be.

Lily's vocabulary is expanding which is so much fun. Today she told me I have "arm"s. That's a new one. Though I'm a big fan of "cool" and "yummy" (which is pronounced "nummy"). -and Daddy is pronouced more like "Daddy-ah" most of the time.

Well, that's all I've got for now, inevitably I will think of 10 more things I could add as soon as I publish this post. Have a great day everyone!!

My Nephew

It's very exciting news round these parts. My little sister had a baby. She probably doesn't think herself "little" anymore, but she'll always be my little sister. It is surreal that she has a baby. I mean, I know I've had 2, but it's still weird.

He was born yesterday and we got here today to visit. Only Abby and I went to the hospital today...

Rough Morning

I'm having a rough morning.

I'm having a bit of a pity party here, so I would understand if you stop reading.

Anyway... We're hitting that point in my recovery, that we knew we would, where it is starting to feel like I'm getting better. But, I'm not really. So it is easy to forget that I still need help with a lot of things. It is hard to remember that I still can't drive, because Matt has work too. But, I have stuff to do too. It is hard to remember that I can bend down and do some things around the house, because there is stuff I can do now. So that stuff has just been forgotten lately. I feel like a a nag. Matt feels under appreciated. We're a mess, but not really because we know it all comes with the territory. It is just hard.

I had a pretty good day yesterday which is probably why it is easy to forget that I am still a crip'.

Okay. I'm done now. I think. No more pitiful venting.

Different times

Do you ever think about how different today's kids' lives are from previous generations?

Ten on Ten

What is Ten on Ten?

Take a photo every hour for ten consecutive hours on the tenth of each month. Document a day of your life and find beauty among the ordinary moments!

Hello March! I actually remembered the tenth! So, this month, since I now have an iPhone, I decided to play around with some photo apps. I used the Instagram app, for those of you who might be interested.

My day started out with breakfast and a multi-vitamin. Here's a glimpse into the bottle of vitamins...

Lily playing dollhouse.

Ice, ice and more ice on my knee.

This is a stack of books that Lil and I read. She stacked so neatly, didn't she? I had to come up with things I could do that allowed me to sit and her to be happy with that. In comes her favorite books...

Lunch!

A little reading of my own during nap time (this was before I ended up falling asleep myself, but don't tell anyone).

Abby's home! She saw a commercial for that very grown up version of Red Riding Hood, and decided that she was going to be Pink Riding Hood. She thought she was very funny.

Homework.

Playing with the camera.

I had a VBS Director's meeting tonight. Our first one for the 2011 year. Should be a good one this year. We always chat way too much, but it's fun.

Inside My Knee

Yesterday I had my post-op doctors appointment. It went very well. My doctor was very pleased at my progress. I think he was actually a little surprised. Apparently the lack of swelling was great and the amount of bend I have right now (30-40 degree) is pretty good. He said that I need another week or so of healing time before I can start physical therapy. The script he wrote for my PT is written for 2-3 times a week for 6 weeks. I am not really looking forward to it because it is going to be difficult and I'm sure will hurt at times, but I am anxious to be better.

So, on to what I think is kind of interesting. We got pictures of the inside of my knee. These are pictures of pictures, so they are kind of blurry. Let me explain what you are seeing in these pictures. This is a picture of the back side of my knee cap (on top) and the groove that it slides in (on bottom). The first two pictures are prior to any "clean up". It is basically a picture of what arthritis looks like. Cartilage should be hard and smooth, not hairy like mine looks.

And this is what it looks like after he cleaned it up. Not perfect, but TONS better.

Kinda cool, huh? No blood and guts, either.
~

So, today is also the tenth and I've already started taking pictures for Ten on Ten. Have you? I'll post either tonight or tomorrow!

Flying Fairies

While my Mom was here taking care of the girls last week, Lily got the luxury of a Happy Meal lunch complete with a Barbie Fairy toy. Abby was VERY jealous. She coped by pulling out the fairy dolls she had and they have become great fun for the girls to play with.

Last night the girls spent some time playing....

This involved, of course, lots of flying. Because that's what fairies do. Duh. Please imagine lots of flying sounds and little girls running all around the house making whooshing sounds with dolls over their heads. Very. Cute.

Pictures from the couch

My knee marked for the surgeon prior to surgery on Tuesday...

Abby's costume came in for the recital so I made her try it on when she got home from dance...

A Little Sore

I made it through. The surgery is over. Phew! I'm over 24 hours post op, so I'm officially sore now, but managing. After taking prescription strength pain killers for the first day or so, I've decided that I'd rather feel a little more pain than be constantly sleepy so I'm now relying on OTC drugs. So far, so good. After recovering from c-sections with the girls, this really isn't too bad.

I had a nerve block on my leg for the surgery, which kept me numb for most of the day yesterday. My hip has been really sore and I figured out today that is because that's where the nerve block was administered. No fun.

The surgery itself went well. We saw the doctor briefly afterward and he had some pictures from the scope of the inside of my knee, and it really was in bad shape. We were right to get it fixed. I asked if we could have copies of the pictures and he said yes. Maybe I can next week at the post op appointment and share. They weren't gross, just black and white. Kind of interesting, actually.

It's been hard being couch bound, I have to admit. Lily has had a hard time with it, too. I've been able to make it to the bathroom, but that's it. Last night I slept on the couch. We haven't talked about tonight yet. I'm nervous about how we'll tackle the stairs, but my bed sounds lovely.

Thanks for the prayers everyone!
